Dear Death by Jeremiah Strother

Dear Death,

It is with a heavy heart that I address you, for our encounters have often left me grappling with a tumult of emotions. I understand the inevitability of your presence, the role you play in the grand scheme of existence. Yet, despite this understanding, I must confess that I harbor no fondness for you.

You see, Death, you have a way of intruding upon the fabric of my life, snatching away those whom I hold dear with merciless efficiency. Each departure leaves a void in my heart, a gaping wound that refuses to fully heal. It is a pain compounded by the realization that your visitations are inevitable, an inescapable aspect of the human experience.

I am not blind to the fact that your actions are impartial, unaffected by the bonds of love and affection that tie us to one another. You are simply fulfilling your duty, a relentless force that knows no discrimination.

And yet, despite my acknowledgment of your role, I cannot help but resent the void you leave in your wake. It is not a selfish sentiment, but rather a testament to the profound impact that those we lose have had on our lives.

In the depths of mourning, we do not grieve for the souls who cross your threshold, but rather for the absence they leave behind. It is the emptiness of their presence, the echoing silence of their laughter, that weighs heavy on our souls.

So, Death, as I grapple with the complexity of my emotions, I acknowledge your presence with a heavy heart. May we find solace in the memories of those we have lost, cherishing the moments we shared until we too are called to join them in the realm beyond.

Yours in sorrow and resignation,

Jeremiah
